While many strength athletes had their minds on USAPL’s Raw Nationals this weekend (see the best lifts here), some significant strongman events took place as well.

At Kentucky’s Strongest Man, Anthony Pernice (above) set a new world record in the silver dollar deadlift — that’s when the bar is 18 inches off the ground — with 539.7 kilograms.

That’s more than 3 kilos over the record Eddie Hall set in 2017.

America’s Strongest Man and Woman event took place, with Wesley Claborn taking first (beating WSM competitor Trey Mitchell in third), and Brooke Sousa, Casey Garland, and Emily Elliot winning the women’s heavy, mid, and lightweight divisions. See the scores on this spreadsheet.

2019 Britain’s Strongest Man Graham Hicks hit a huge 420kg squat as he preps for Big Dogs, a powerlifting meet taking place on November 2.

All strongman eyes will next be on Dubai: World’s Ultimate Deadlift is being held at the Burj Plaza tomorrow and World’s Ultimate Strongman will be streaming live from 3 pm Gulf Standard Time on October 25.

While Thor and Martins are sitting it out the roster is stacked with Brian Shaw, Oleksii Novikov, JF Caron, Konstantine Janashia, Robert Oberst, Jerry Pritchett, the Stoltman brothers, and more competing. Hope their posterior chains recover from those deadlifts in time.
